Naturally Dyed Local Yarn, Patterns and Book, Gifts
Based on the Black Isle in the Scottish Highlands, Black Isle Yarns produces beautiful minimally processed yarns from local wool. Every fleece is hand selected by Julie (who has a background in forestry and ecology) from local sustainably managed farms. I choose high quality fleeces and work closely with several UK mills to ensure my bespoke yarns are fully traceable from farm to fibre.
As well as offering my yarns in their natural undyed shades I naturally dye them with locally foraged dye plants and sustainably sourced natural dye material. I particularly enjoy creating tonal shades which reflect the colours I see around me on the Black Isle.
My range includes single farm yarns, single breed yarns and several unique blends. The yarns include 4ply, Sport and DK weights and include both worsted and woollen spun.
I recently published my first book, Perspectives, which is a design collection inspired by the landscape and wool of the Highlands. The six Perspectives designs celebrate the delight of spending time outdoors, especially in the mountains, and the mental reset that even the simplest picnic, walk or swimming adventure in beautiful surroundings can bring.
