100% British yarn and woollen textiles
Launched in 2016 to add value to fleece otherwise considered worthless, Daughter of a Shepherd produces 100% British yarn and woollen textiles showcasing the rich array of sheep shades found across these islands.
Founder Rachel Atkinson, the shepherd’s daughter behind the name, was shocked to discover the price being paid for the stunning black Hebridean fleece from the flock her father manages and as a keen knitter and yarn industry specialist, decided to take her mortgage deposit savings and put them into having the 2015 clip spun. The business has since grown and now develops both worsted and woollen spun yarns sourced, scoured and spun in the UK along with tweed and blankets. A new collection naturally dyed by Julia Billings is the perfect accompaniment to this neutral palette.
In the online store you’ll also find carefully selected books relating to the land, nature and sustainability, various sheepy goods from artists and makers, plus a whole flock of other goodies that support businesses with ethics similar to our own.
